Why summertime is the best time to visit the Costa del Sol

Verano en Las Dunas Grand Luxury Hotel

The Costa del Sol, or sunshine coast, lives up to its name all-year-round, but it is during the summer time when the heat is really dialled up a notch, making it one of the hottest destinations on the planet – figuratively that is!

Staying at Las Dunas Grand Luxury Hotel, is always a special event. This long-established and much-loved icon, caters for every eventuality, whether you fancy treating yourself to a wellness break, want to enjoy some much-deserved rest and relaxation or you plan on experiencing the coveted Costa del Sol sunshine lifestyle. So, what better time to visit than during in the summer?

Sizzling sunshine and warm nights

During the summer, June, July and August, the daytime temperature is usually hover between 28 and 35°C and you are pretty much guaranteed sunshine from dawn to dusk. The evenings stay lighter for longer bathed the day in around 11 to 12 hours of sunshine. When the sun goes down, the temperature remains warm, providing a heady backdrop for a walk on the beach, long cold cocktails or dining out in one of the beach restaurants in Estepona.

On the beach: heat up and cool down

With over 150 kilometres of coastline on the Costa del Sol, there is plenty of scope for sunbathing, water sports, building sand castles or lazing on a sunbed.  Although the temperature is warm all year round, the sea can often be a little cooler out of season. Whereas during the summer, there is nothing quite like soaking up the sunshine and then heading into the pleasantly warm Mediterranean Sea to cool down.  It’s also the perfect temperature for swimming and snorkelling and other water sports. The Las Dunas Grand Luxury Hotel is surrounded by beautiful beaches that you can explore.

Outdoor activities

The famed healthy outdoor Costa del Sol lifestyle can be enjoyed all year round, even in the summer you can explore the great outdoors. However, it is recommended that you start hikes, cycle rides or any other exerting activity early in the morning, thereby avoiding the midday sun.  This is a great way to pack as much into your trip as possible, as you then have the rest of the day to relax and enjoy your surroundings in a more leisurely manner.

Midsummer madness – Starlite Festival 2025

As the weather heats up so does the appetite for parties, ferias and festivals.  Spain is renowned for its festivals, and one of the main annual events on the Costa del Sol, the annual Occidental Starlite Festival, takes place in the summer between June and September.

Starlite is Europe’s largest boutique festival and attracts a wide range of local, national and international acts, names from both past and present, ranging from Camilla Cabello to Kool & The Gang. There are restaurants, fashion, DJ sets and VIP packages.  For tickets and more information visit the website: https://starlitemarbella.tickex.live/.

La Feria de Málaga 2025

All towns, cities and villages throughout Spain host their own feria, celebrating their specific patron saint. The largest feria on the Costa del Sol, is La Feria de Málaga, which this year will take place from 16th to 23rd August. It is also the most important event of the summer with a program of music, food and dancing.  The city’s streets are adorned with decorations and filled with people during the day, then at night the festivities relocate to the fairground, where there’ll be flamenco music, DJs, horse shows and much more.

Warm weather, wellness and weight loss

When the weather is warm and the nights are hot, appetites tend to wane, making it a great time to take advantage of the Las Dunas Grand Luxury Hotel seven- day weight loss  program.  This wellness break involves spending seven days in a luxurious suite, with access to a gym, Spa, swimming pools, treatments and benefit from a tailor-made menu of balance nutritional dishes.  This package includes an assessment by a wellness expert, guided Spa detox circuit, Spa, wellness treatments, personalised physical activity progress, supplements and a useful healthy cooking workshop.
